Built in a real salon, not a workshop
AOS is developed inside a hair and beauty business in Leeds and Nottingham — twenty chairs, a barbering floor, treatment rooms, a café, employed staff, self-employed freelancers and a concession. Every feature exists because that business needed it on a Monday morning, and every one is used in earnest before it is offered to anyone else.
That is an unusual way to build software and it shows up in the details: the commission maths is the maths that pays real people, and the ordering screen is the one somebody uses at seven in the morning.
What it does today
Pay and people
Monthly payroll with commission, holiday entitlement and absence, rotas and split shifts, contracts of employment issued and signed online, and a staff view where anyone can see their own pay with the working shown.
Freelancers
Chair and room licences, weekly settlements calculated from real takings, statements sent automatically, invoices raised, and a self-service view for the freelancer.
Customer service
One inbox for email, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook messages, missed calls and reviews, with the client's history alongside the conversation.
Ordering and margins
Supplier catalogues, cost of goods against budget, and recipe-level costing that derives the true margin on everything sold — including the café, down to the cost of oat milk in a latte.
Food safety
Allergens derived from recipes rather than typed twice, published to a public matrix that cannot fall out of step with what the kitchen actually uses.
Membership and links
Paid membership with automatic till discounts and an Apple Wallet card, plus short links and dynamic QR codes so a printed code can be repointed without reprinting it.
What is coming
The appointment diary is in development, along with a client app and a staff app. Until those ship, AOS runs alongside an existing booking system rather than replacing it — and we would rather say so here than discover it with you halfway through an installation.
Who it is for
Salons of roughly five to twenty-five people, particularly those running employed staff and self-employed freelancers side by side, or carrying a café, retail or a concession. If a spreadsheet is currently holding one of those together, that is the gap AOS was written to close.
It is not built for solo stylists who need only a diary, and not for chains above ten sites.
